WCFM Market Manager Job Announcement

The Wallowa County Farmers’ Market, Inc. (WCFM) seeks an organized, energetic self-starter to coordinate and manage the Farmers’ Market in Joseph, Oregon. The Market is held every Saturday, from the last weekend in May to early October, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a part‐time position with fluctuating hours that requires commitment on Saturdays during the market season. The WCFM board encourages people with a passion for community food systems and supporting local artisans to apply. 


Organization Mission

The Wallowa County Farmers’ Market Association is a nonprofit corporation established to serve as a marketplace to provide fresh, local food and unique arts and crafts in support of community, local agriculture, and small businesses.


Scope of Work

The Market Manager holds a public role that can be fast-­paced on market day. Behind the scenes, they recruit  and schedule vendors and volunteers and work with the board of directors to coordinate special events and fundraise for WCFM. On market days, the manager sets up, manages, and takes down WCFM-­related booths, handles SNAP and all inquiries, and collects vendor fees and donations. Additional responsibilities include: working with the board Treasurer to keep accurate financial records, coordinating permissions with the City of Joseph and neighbors to the market,  attending board meetings, handling WCFM communications including e-mail and phone, and promoting WCFM on social media and working with the board to publicize through radio ads and local newspapers. 


Qualifications

The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills and is an exceptional verbal and written communicator. Knowledge of farmers’ markets is highly desirable. Access to a vehicle with the ability to tow a trailer is a plus.  Other desired skills/experience:

  • Computer literacy: experience with Google, Facebook and Instagram

  • Financial management

  • Marketing, publicity, and communications 

  • Problem-­solving and conflict resolution

  • Ability to multi-­task and remain calm in stressful situations

  • Fundraising and event coordination

  • Volunteer coordination and recruitment

  • Working with a board of directors

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds


Compensation

The time commitment is approximately 35 hours per month in March and April, 75 hours per month May through September, and 35 hours in October. The workload decreases significantly November through February. Compensation for this position is as follows:

o    $490 per month for March (prorated for hiring date if necessary), April, and October

o    $1050 per month from May through September

o    $630 total for hours from November to February 

This works out to $14 per hour. WCFM is currently unable to offer vacation/sick time or other benefits. This position is at-will and reports to the WCFM President of the Board of Directors.
