Backyard Gardens

Vendor Highlight: Backyard Gardens

Owned by: Beth Gibans

Location: Joseph Oregon

Since 2000, Backyard Gardens has been committed to bringing fresh, seasonal, and delicious foods to Wallowa County and beyond through its farm and catering business. Located in Joseph, Oregon, we grow a wide variety of produce for CSA, farmers’ markets, restaurants, and individuals, as well as for use in our catering business

They “aim to provide our community high quality, nutritious, and beautiful produce grown in an environmentally friendly manner. They use ecologically sound practices such as crop rotations, natural amendments, and cover crops instead of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Though not certified organic, the farm attempts to follow the guidelines for organic growing.”

Backyard Gardens offers quality produce, plant starts, flowers, and homemade processed and baked foods. They offer these products through the Wallowa County Farmers’ Market, their CSA (community supported agriculture), restaurants, Genuine Wallowa County Provisions, and retail stores.

They provide many items each week at the farmers’ market, even having two booth spaces for about a month each year to provide a multitude of plant starts for those wanting to grow their own at home! The rest of the season, they provide produce from their backyard locations as well as flowers, produce, herbs, processed foods such as granola and hummus.

Backyard Gardens CSA allows members to get weekly deliveries of fresh, local, and sustainably grown produce. Members pay up front and then get a portion of the harvest throughout the growing season. In addition to their CSA, Backyard Gardens also has a flower share allowing customers to receive flowers each week for the season.

In addition to providing local nutritious produce and plant starts, Backyard Gardens also provides catering using their own produce and locally grown ones to produce delicious food for your event.
