Off To A Great Start!

What a great kick-off to our 2012 Joseph Farmers' Market season!  Our local favorite Homemade Jam kept the market square a toe-tapping, bright place to be despite the threatening weather.  Only a few raindrops actually fell - easily brushed off with the hot Red Horse Bakery coffee and cheery conversation.  It was so good to see everybody at the Market!

For those of you who missed all the incredible produce and flower plant starts, Backyard Gardens and Flower Peddler will both be back next Saturday, June 2nd.  Beth Gibans invites you all to starting planting, "We still have lots of transplants ready for a good home!   Tomatoes (over 40 varieties!), eggplants, peppers, basil, lettuces, kale, chard, parsley, nasturtiums, gem marigold, and calendula all need  good homes."  In addition, Backyard Gardens already has a great variety of produce ready to eat:  arugula, kale, salad mix, spinach, stir fry and local honey.  YUM!

We've got your favorite vendors all line up including Sally B. Farms, Gilstrap Brothers Winery, and the ever popular Wallowa Country Kettle Korn.  New this week are specialty vendors: jeweler Susan Collette from Wallowa Mountain Studio and artisan baker Heather Frei with gourmet dog treats!  What's better than old favorites and new friends?  Old favorites and new friends AND hot coffee with homemade cookies!  We'll see you Saturday!

Flowering Plants Galore at the Spring Planting Festival

Who could be blamed for waxing poetic when visiting Pam Harshfield's Flower Peddler greenhouse in Wallowa?  The colors are rich and vibrant and healthy.  It made me smile just to stand there looking at them.

Pam told me the flowers are at just the right stage for taking root in new homes.  Whether you are planting borders, beds, or want a long lasting spot of color with a hanging basket or container, she's probably got what you are looking for.

She'll be loading up her panel van to bring these beauties to our big Joseph Farmers' Market kick-off on May 26th.  Come down to the Spring Planting Festival from 10:00 to 2:00 and have a great chat with Pam.  She'll be easy to spot among this bright bouquet!

Pam will be bringing herbs as well as bedding plants
