WCFM Market Manager Job Announcement
The Wallowa County Farmers Market, Inc. (WCFM) board of directors seeks a market manager for the
2020 market season (and beyond!). The WCFM takes place in Joseph, Oregon, on Saturdays, May 23 to
Oct. 10, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a part‐time position with fluctuating hours, but requires
commitment to Saturdays during the market season.
Organization Mission
The Wallowa County Farmers’ Market Association is a nonprofit corporation established to serve as a
marketplace to provide fresh, local food and unique arts and crafts in support of community, local
agriculture, and small businesses.
Scope of Work
The market manager holds a public role that can be fast-paced on market day. Behind the scenes, the
manager coordinates permissions with the City of Joseph and market neighbors; recruits vendors and
volunteers; schedules the vendors and special events; and works with the board of directors. On market
days, the manager sets up WCFM-related booths; remains at the market to manage SNAP and all inquiries;
collects vendor fees and donations for WCFM merchandise; and takes down booths. Additional
responsibilities include working with the board treasurer to keep accurate financial records; promoting
the market both on and offline; attending WCFM board meetings; supporting board fundraising efforts;
and monitoring the WCFM email, post office box, and voicemail.
A more detailed list will be provided to position finalists. This position reports to the WCFM board
president.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an organized, energetic self-‐starter, calm under pressure, with exceptional
verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of farmers’ markets a plus. Access to a rig with a
hitch desired. Other desired skills/experience:
- Computer literacy; experience with Google, Facebook and Instagram
- Financial
- Marketing
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Multi-tasking
- Fundraising
- Working with a board of directors
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
Compensation
This position is at-will. The time commitment is approximately 35 hours per month in March and April, 75
hours per month May through September, or 18.75 hours per week, and about 40 hours in October. The
workload decreases significantly November through February, mostly attending board meetings and
conducting research. Compensation for this position is as follows:
o $420 per month for March, April, and October
o $900 per month from May through September
o $420 total for hours from Nov. to Feb. (prorated to accommodate hire date)
This works out to approximately $12 per hour. WCFM is currently unable to offer vacation or sick time.
